New cat in the house

Did you ever notice that if you have kids and you give one of them a pet you always end up taking care of it yourself? Well, let me tell you…it apparently doesn’t change just because they grow up and head out on their own.

Now I don’t have any kids myself but my honey does…five in fact and all well grown and making their own way in life but that pet thing hasn’t changed a bit it seems. You see, we had two cats, BV and Churchill, both of which she received form her now grown children. BV came from her middle son (moved) and Churchill from her youngest daughter (moved again). Me? I have no problems with it. I love cats. Non stop, fur bearing entertainment and they tend to like me as well.

So a new four-legged feline fur factory has arrived, this one from her youngest son and goes by the name of Dingo (not an Australian wild dog) which by the way, is short for Ding-a-ling and he lives up to that name he does! I don’t mean he’s stupid in the least, he’s just a little too smart for his own good. He’s one of those rare cats that can actually recognize themselves in the mirror. I have even caught him checking his paw in the mirror while he was washing it and not only can he see himself but he can recognize other things as well. For instance, being able to look at me through the mirror (my reflection that is) and blink his eyes “hello” or follow the reflection of my finger as I move it around. I had one other cat like that when I was  kid. This one could purposely turn the TV on  and off depending what was on. If he didn’t like the show, he walked up and turned it off…simple as that. He was also good at turning on the fan during a hot day. He’d fiddle with the switch until the fan started and then lay in front of it.

Anyway, I thought I’d post a couple of pictures I took since we got him:

Our senior cat (BV) gives Dingo the evil eye.

The only disappointment that we had with his arrival was that we were looking forward to a couple weeks of feline fury as the three got the pecking order sorted out but it just didn’t happen. Dingo walked in, looked things over, apparently was satisfied with the way things were and made himself quite at home. All we got out of it were a few hisses on the first day and maybe a couple of half-hearted swats and that was it. I guess you can’t have everything but then again, he’s a handful all by himself.

I hope the rest of her children manage to keep their pets unto themselves because three cats are enough.

Oops…gotta run, I just heard a crash :-)

  1. Welcome to the blog Cat. Glad you could drop by.

It was a toss up as to whether Dingo would attack the Christmas tree we recently put up or perhaps try to climb it. So far we’ve only found one broken bulb but the 3 stooges won’t fess up as to who done it :P

Drop by when you can. Coffee’s always on.

  2. Thank you. :) Do you have tea aswell?

My cat has been ok with our christmas tree so far. I’ve only had her for 6 months and she is still only 16 months old. My housemates have 2 dogs though and one of them has only been with us for 1 months. She is a labrador puppy and very energetic. We can’t leave her alone one minute.

So far she’s tried destroying the christmas tree 5 times in 2 days….
