We lost our DSL up here in Stove Pipe City yesterday around 3:00pm and just got it back this morning. It kinda’ clued me in on how much my attitude toward using a computer has changed over the years.
If I had lost dial-up for example a mere 4 to 5 years ago it wouldn’t have been that big of a deal, more like a minor irritation and I still would have had plenty of various programs to occupy my time. This was due to the fact that having internet access back then was not the major reason I had a home computer. Yesterday, when I saw that my access had not been restored yet, I banged into Word, did some writing (30 minutes) and then shut the thing down.
Amazing what just a few years can still mean in the computer/electronics industry. I can clearly recall back when the industry was at it’s peak in innovation and new technology seemed to be coming forth every time you turned around (1995 and on), that it was said that the world of technology was turning over approximately every 14 days. For anyone in the industry back then you can probably recall this as well.
The industry isn’t turning over quite as fast these days, it’s more like improving on existing technology but it still surprised me when I realized how much of my time on the computer is internet based. Like most of it.
Anyway, I’m glad I have access to the world again. I missed it.
Now it’s off to work I go.
Nave a good day all.

A quote from the my short post about how Internet users made Time Magazine’s person of the year award. I Found the link in my FireStats plugin for WordPress and I wondered what an article about Tom Delay has to do with my little slice of blogdom and low and behold…it didn’t. But the article below it entitled “Thanks, Time Magazine!” did.
Here’s the excerpt and the source link:
Many bloggers took Time’s choice personally, and posted their would-be acceptance speeches for the award. “The common people have made the Time?s Person of The Year!,” a blogger at Just Thinkin? adds.

Ok, So I was a bit floored there for a second or two or three but I recovered enough to send my honey an email with the link (all the way to the bedroom where she was working on her computer). She came out to the library where we danced a small jig badly scaring the cats.
No applause necessary…Just send money.
…by cats! Well, two out of three anyway.
During the work week my morning routine usually involves stumbling blindly out to the kitchen, putting on water for coffee, wobbling into the library to my desk and poking around until I hit something that resembles the power button for my computer. Once that is achieved, I stagger back to the bathroom with the idea of putting myself together without to many accidents.
Once all is said and done then you can find me chewing on a bowl of cereal (Basic Four), sipping coffee (Folgers instant) and quite often surrounded by our cats waiting for me to finish off their bowl of milk. And such is this morning. Plenty of company here while I peruse the news and bang out a morning post. Of course it’s always such entertainment when I do finally finish and put the remnants down for the boys to fight over and after a few cuffs and slaps, two of the fur bearing critters invariably to run off to argue about it while one is left to lick up the spoils.
So much fun. Never fails to make me chuckle.
I suppose if there was a female type feline around here to manage these types of events there would be less rough housing since the female side of things always tends to enforce discipline amongst the male inmates. But then it wouldn’t be so entertaining now would it?
Hope your day goes well.

My lovely lady received an email the other day and forwarded it to me. It was about one of my favorite commentators; Andy Rooney and what his thoughts were on women over 40 and I just had to post it here.
I for one, agree 100%.
And so:
In case you missed it on 60 Minutes, this is what Andy Rooney thinks about women over 40:
60 Minutes (CBS) Correspondent Andy Rooney
As I grow in age, I value women over 40 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why:
A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night and ask, “What are you thinking?” She doesn’t care what you think.
If a woman over 40 doesn’t want to watch the game, she doesn’t sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do, and it’s usually more interesting.
Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won’t hesitate to shoot you if they think they can get away with it.
Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it’s like to be unappreciated.
Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 40.
Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 40 is far sexier than her younger counterpart.
Older women are forthright and honest. They’ll tell you right off if you are a jerk if you are acting like one. You don’t ever have to wonder where you stand with her.
Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately, it’s not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed, hot woman over 40, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year old waitress. Ladies, I apologize.
For all those men who say “Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?” here’s an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage. Why? Because women realize it’s not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage?
Andy Rooney is a really smart guy!
You just have to love it!

Ow! Yup, must be morning. Amazing as it may seem the temperature this AM is actually below freezing (it's usually close to or below zero normally). A whole 24 degrees! Hmmm, the grass might actually stop growing finally. I heard a story from the service manager down at the main store in Lebanon, NH that his neighbor was out mowing his lawn around December 1st which probably should be noted as a state record. I'm sure it is. Unfortunately all this raw rainy weather is also making yours truly feel like he's about 20 years older with an advanced case of arthritis. Getting out of bed these days can be an interesting experience to say the least. So it's off to work I go, ready to face another day (almost), hoping that there might be snow for Christmas. I won't hold my breath though. Besides, Christmas doesn't need snow…just a lot of good warm feelings amongst folks. Morning all…

Google blasts off with NASA on virtual flights
By Adam TurnerTuesday, 19 December 2006
Google Earth flyovers of the moon and Mars will be part of a NASA agreement with Google to make the space agency's wealth of information more easily available to the public.
Source: iTWire – Google blasts off with NASA on virtual flights
I first heard of Google and NASA striking a deal quite awhile ago maybe even as long ago as two years but I clearly remember Google taking on the task of organizing NASA's huge amount of data that the organization had accumulated since it's beginning. Something that the had previously been unable to accomplish. I knew then that with Google's reputation of being able to organize vast amounts of data that with time, could easily deliver nothing but good for those like you and me. I could well imagine the benefits of having all that data properly organized and searchable using Google's tried and true and mostly objective recipe.
Now the time seems to be nearly at hand. As a Google Earth user I have watched the "Earth browser" so to speak, mature into an excellent research tool and all around just plain fun piece of software and now it seems it's going to become all that much better.
Can't say as I can complain too much (but I'm sure someone will).
Here's to the Internet and it's virtual world thereof and all who partake in it. It's only getting better with age say I!
Mornin’ all,
Another wet morning here in Stove Pipe City and boy the bones are screaming about it. Both my honey and I are walking around like a couple of zombies from “Night of the Living Dead”. If this is global warming you can have it. Seems to me it could have been decent enough to wait until I was dead and gone before warming things up like this I mean, what’s another thirty-some odd years in the life of a major climatic shift anyway?
I have a long post I’ve been working on for the last day or so and if I ever manage to finish it I’ll send it on up. You know how wordy I can get.
So off to work yo-ho, yo-ho.
Have a good day all.
