Something messed up with the theme

I noticed today that all the links attached to the images in the blog now have bogus urls so when the thumbnail image is clicked, instead of going to the actual image it now brings up a 404 page.
Due to my wife’s investigating she found that the link to Ed Merritt’s (the theme author) website (buried in the theme code) when bringing up my blog is adding some bogus code to the image links for some reason and redirecting them to la-la land.
Ed Merritt’s site has been down for awhile now, the default page that comes up says the site is under construction but apparently the theme can’t work unless it is attached somehow to Merritt’s site. Everything worked fine a couple of days ago but all of a sudden it’s not.
If this doesn’t straighten out by tomorrow then I will be forced unwillingly to change themes to some other one. I’d rather not have that happen but I really don’t care for my theme being manipulated like this.
We’ll see what happens but standby for some changes if that’s what it calls for. Too bad really. I like this theme a lot.
