Long Meadow Farms Ecology Bags

So what, you may ask is an Ecology Bag?

Well to be honest, it's a basic cloth bag a bit larger than than your standard grocery store plastic bag and holds about as many groceries as a standard size paper type bag. The reason it's called an Ecology bag is that it can be used in place of both types of these bags various stores offer to carry your purchases in thus creating a little less waste for our  environment to handle. There are even several major supermarket chains that will take off $0.03 per bag used when you do your shopping as a sort of reward for not contributing to all that nasty plastic type waste out there.

Basically, it's a sturdy, functional, durable, two handled cloth bag made specifically to carry your stuff in be it purchases at the store, gift items, toys, gadgets, knitting supplies, beach stuff, picnic stuff…just think of something that fits into a bag and it will fit into an Ecology Bag. When you're finished using it, you can roll it up into a wee bit of a package which stores easily and takes up very little room until the next time you need it. If it gets dirty all you have to do is pop it in with the rest of the laundry.

Long meadow Farms Quilts has been making Ecology Bags since the beginning and they have always been popular. We use about 8 of these Ecology Bags when we go shopping ourselves and all of them are years old and still in fine condition. And it cuts down a bit on the runs to the recycle center as well.

Highly recommended.

Update: There's a new post on just this subject by the lady who makes them on the Long Meadow Farms blog: Bed quilts to Bookmarks. Check it out.

How much do you charge for them? When I was grocery shopping before Christmas the supermarket had a rack of ecology bags and I almost bought some as stocking stuffers for my daughter. Her storage area (like mine) where we shove all the plastic bags once they are unpacked is FULL of plastic bags. Yet week after week I keep buying more groceries and accumulating more plastic bags. Makes no sense huh? Great idea here, have you tried marketing them?

Sorry about that. They go for $4.00 ea. I had put the links to my wife’s Long Meadow Farms website and the link to the ecology bags page into the post but somehow during an edit, I lost them (it happens).

I’ve put the links back in so you can get to Laurie’s web site and the ecology bag page. She actually doesn’t sell through her website (because it’s a pain) so she sells through a few highly rated craft sites and provides the appropriate links on each of her product pages. Check her online store link from her main page if you’re interested. The other stuff is nice too! (innocent plug there) :P
