Lost In The Options

How easy it is for a blogger with a technical bend (like me for example) to get lost in all the options that a WordPress install has to offer never mind the options a few of the more essential plugins lay on the poor, unsuspecting blogger. Heck, you can almost spend more time putzin around with the various plugin and layout options than you spend in actual writing and posting of content to the blog itself. This doesn't make for a very interesting blog now does it?

Don't worry, things will calm down after WordPress 2.1 is released, the blog properly upgraded and dealing with any plugin compatibility problems is taken care of. That's what I was doing (partly) this evening–making sure all my plugins were updated to the latest version. The rest of the time was reading about and playing with the many functions of the Ultimate Tag Warrior (one of the plugins that had a new version available). I'm not even close to getting the tagging system set the way I want it yet since I'm still learning what does what and where it happens to do it but it shouldn't be too much longer. Meanwhile, be prepared for occasional weirdness in the tagging end of things but if you're one of those that stops by on a regular basis you already know things can get a little weird around here anyway.

Ah…time for sleep…so I think I will. G'night all.

  1. Thanks for the tip Becky. I think that WordPress.com might have incorporated that type of plugin sometime before I transferred my blog to a “host your own” and I really appreciated the function. I had also forgotten all about it (who me? Forget? :P ).

I’m going to wait until WordPress version 2.1 is released and I have my WordPress install (hopefully) successfully upgraded before I install another plugin. I’m not sure if the ones I currently use will be compatible although I know that at least two of them are according to the compatibility list at WordPress.org. Once that’s done, I’ll be sure to include it.

    Thanks Becky
