An Increase In Rank

In violation of the previous post (I am feeling lousy, but I’ll get over it) I just wanted to announce that my Google Page Rank has gone from a long standing PR4 to a new PR5 and I have no one but my readers to thank for that. Okay…So I have to post once in awhile but it took you people to read it, right?

Now Google Page Ranks can sometimes be a picky thing but even if it drops back down to 4, it’s still you readers that count!

So thanks to all those who have taken the time to stop by, leave comments and link back to me from their respective sites. I wish there was a way to take you all out to lunch or something but that would probably be more than I could afford right now and I don’t believe my old Cherokee is up to crossing a couple of large land masses let alone oceans. Sorry about that.

Too bad their isn’t a way to attach a doughnut and coffee to an email or I’d send you all breakfast. :P

  1. Hmm, I have no idea what my rank is, must be quite low though since my blog is only 2 months old. Sorry to hear you’re not feeling too great on the new medication. I’m with you….I HATE pills too. Didn’t even have to take my allergy meds in St.Martin, now that I’m back though – - back to the damn pills and feeling lousy with the high pollen counts. Oh well at least I’m not shoveling snow.

  2. Elaine! You’re back! And loving it I see. I take it you both had a great time in St. martin. I know we would love to be able to do that. Hope you enjoyed yourselves.

Anyway, Page Rank is Google’s Page Rank algorithm that they use to determine the ordering of items on any given Google search page. Sort of a ranking thing in order of “popularity” but not that simple. If you can learn about it here and even more here.

    Welcome back.

Congratulations! I know how it feels. One of my blogs had PR2 for a few months and then, next update it suddenly jumped to PR5.
Did I see any increase in traffic? Nope, but it still feels good. :)
BTW, I like this comment edit option you have.

  4. Using the link from Laptop Repair Tech my rating was a 3. Using pagerank check my google rating was 7/10. Not sure what any of that means but now I know my rating ;-)

  5. @Laptop
Thanks…same to you. And the plugin for the edit comment feature is http://www.raproject.com/wordpress/wp-ajax-edit-comments/. Anytime you want to find what kind of plugin or widget I use for a feature, just check my Plugins page Tab at the top of the header. They’re all listed there.

    @Elaine
Hey, a Page Rank already? Good deal and you were on vacation when it went up. I did check it using SEO Quake Firefox extension and the Google Toolbar and it is indeed a 3 out of 10. And as long as you keep posting once in awhile, it’s enough to get you on the front page of a Google search for Elaine’s Place or it soon will be. My wife’s website just went from a 3 to a 4. So we’re all happy all around.
PS: That Page Rank you saw (7/10) was for the Page Rank Check site itself, not yours or mine (it almost threw me off too). :P

  6. Hi Brett,
Sorry for the delay in replying. Things have been nuts here. Thanks for the congrats.
Keep on posting and your rank will come. Took me about 4-5 months of posting and a few readers and comments and my rank went from 0 to 4 overnight. Also, relevant commenting on other folks blogs helps as well.
Just keep on blogging and it will come.

  7. Thanks Sara. It was as much a surprise to me as anyone else. Ironically enough I had, at the time, just finished a post (comment) at Performancing.com about how I never really expected to ever get more than my tried and true PR4 simply because Just Thinkin’ was my personal type blog and I had no ambition to ever make it more than that. That will be for other future projects but not for this one I said and…and…

Ands the very next day I woke up the SEO Quake extension for Firefox and there was a fat PR5 staring me in the face. Go figure.

Question: Do you have the Google (XML) Sitemaps plugin installed in your WordPress? I assume you’re running your own WordPress install yes? If not, this plugin will help you quite a bit. I’m fairly sure you might have it already but I just wanted to check.

Like I mentioned to Brett. Just keep posting and it will come. As I understand it the jump from 4 to 5 is not that easy to obtain. And don’t forget to get out there and comment on other folks blogs too.

  8. I think page rank is logarithmic in some way, so a PR2 is some number (10 for example) times as prominent as a PR1. It follows that a PR3 is 10x a PR2 etc. It gets really hard to move up. I too have found that the pr 4 to 5 jump is a hard one to make unless the site is either genuinely or artificially authoritative and quote-worthy on some topic.

  9. @Sunny
You’re closer than you might think. Go to Wikipedia and type in “Page Rank” in the search box and you’ll find a great article describing how the Google algorithm works. I seemed to have missed putting the link into the post. have to be more careful about that.
