I just recently returned from a trip to the VA to visit the podiatry clinic in hopes that they can fix my gimp. It turned out as I suspected, that my right leg is shorter than the left due to my hips being a bit cocked from an old service related back injury.
Let’s say that again…
My right leg is shorter than the left leg. Everybody clear on that?
Good…Now get this…
The podiatrist rips out my old insoles to my sneakers, gives me a set of new special insoles (good) and then stuffs a heel lift in the left sneaker! (huh?)
Everybody get that?
Alright…I don’t get it either. My left leg is longer so lets….make….it….even….longer??!!??
I asked her specifically about this and she went into a long explanation about either treating the physical or treating the symptoms.
(deep breath now…long sentence coming up)
The physical I have just previously described, the symptoms however, and as she pointed out to me, involved the fact that my right leg and hip had been loudly complaining that they were very unhappy with the situation of late and in addition…well…it had something to do with my right foot and something else about compensating for this and that and she thought the best thing for my situation was to treat the symptoms and if the 6mm lift that she had stuffed into my left sneaker (under the new insoles…for the leg that is longer) didn’t do the trick, then she gave me a 9mm lift to replace the 6mm with in order to make my left leg even…..more…..longer.
(okay…you can breath normally…)
I still don’t get it. I wrote it all down on virtual paper so I could see it in black and white and I still don’t get it.
Laurie and I went for a short walk after supper. I’ll give you 5 to 1 that this 6mm “solution” puts my back out inside of a week.
