A shop keeper once again

The proprietor of Long Meadow farms Quilts, meaning my wonderful lady, is off once again to the final weekend of an art show to mind her booth and I am on my way again to mind her store. This time I’m ready to be “Walmarted”.

I brought a squirt gun! (laughs evilly)

See y’all later…(now where’s that gallon jug?)

Been to Podiatry. Ok, I don’t get it…

I just recently returned from a trip to the VA to visit the podiatry clinic in hopes that they can fix my gimp. It turned out as I suspected, that my right leg is shorter than the left due to my hips being a bit cocked from an old service related back injury.

Let’s say that again…

My right leg is shorter than the left leg. Everybody clear on that?

Good…Now get this…

The podiatrist rips out my old insoles to my sneakers, gives me a set of new special insoles (good) and then stuffs a heel lift in the left sneaker! (huh?)

Everybody get that?

Alright…I don’t get it either. My left leg is longer so lets….make….it….even….longer??!!??

I asked her specifically about this and she went into a long explanation about either treating the physical or treating the symptoms.

(deep breath now…long sentence coming up)

The physical I have just previously described, the symptoms however, and as she pointed out to me, involved the fact that my right leg and hip had been loudly complaining that they were very unhappy with the situation of late and in addition…well…it had something to do with my right foot and something else about compensating for this and that and she thought the best thing for my situation was to treat the symptoms and if the 6mm lift that she had stuffed into my left sneaker (under the new insoles…for the leg that is longer) didn’t do the trick, then she gave me a 9mm lift to replace the 6mm with in order to make my left leg even…..more…..longer.

(okay…you can breath normally…)

I still don’t get it. I wrote it all down on virtual paper so I could see it in black and white and I still don’t get it.

Laurie and I went for a short walk after supper. I’ll give you 5 to 1 that this 6mm “solution” puts my back out inside of a week.

To the Podiatry Clinic…Awaaay!

So with the Jeep stuffed with broken medical equipment to drop off at the main store’s service department (work related—just to get it out of my shop here in Newport), a new pair of sneakers and my VA card in hand, I’m off once again to the VA where it is hoped that the aforementioned clinic can fix my gimp.

The service related back injury I sustained way back when cocked my spine a tad which, of course, has worsened with age and as a result has thrown my hips out of whack. All this results in one leg gradually becoming slightly longer than the other and this really throws my golf game off–or it would if I actually played golf, but what it does do is put the hurts on my right hip. So now I’m traveling down to the VA’s podiatry clinic to see if they can find something that might compensate for this. I don’t need any more ache in my joints that aren’t already there as you might imagine.

Here’s to hoping. :P

I Read The News Today…Sheeesh!

I read the news this morning and almost wished I hadn’t.

First there was this:

FOXNews.com – Hopes Dim in Minneapolis for Survivors – Local News | News Articles | National News | US News

More than 60 people were injured and as many as 50 vehicles were in the river, many of their occupants having scrambled to shore. The collapse did not appear to be terrorism-related.

Some injured people were carried up the riverbank, while emergency workers tended to others on the ground and some jumped into the water to look for survivors. Fire and black smoke rose from the wreckage.

And then this:

Bloomberg.com: Asia

Aug. 2 (Bloomberg) — Mattel Inc., the world’s largest toymaker, is recalling 1.5 million products around the world including Chinese-made Sesame Street and Dora the Explorer toys because they may contain “excessive levels” of lead.

And to add the ironic twist to the whole thing, the bridge above was under repair at the time so only two lanes were open during rush hour traffic. Talk about a mixed blessing. Yes, it was awful that it collapsed during the noon hour rush but on the other hand…what if all the lanes had been open?

The Mattel recall hits more close to home since many of the toys I’ve heard mentioned were some of the ones that my sister’s daughter used to play with when she was a few years younger. That certainly makes me wonder about a few things for instance, like how long has this been happening and how many kids could be affected. It also makes me wonder how many children who could fall into the “sickly child” category could be directly or indirectly related to this?
