In Seasonal Denial

Welcome to my annual complaining about the coming cold…

I’m experiencing a very bad case of seasonal denial (I looked all over for a definition but couldn’t find one. They must be in denial also). I’m absolutely against the change of seasons this year and all the rotten, lousy, freezing my skinny butt off cold that comes with it. Even the trees are in denial, I swear. Most of the leaves are still summery green although there are other trouble making type trees arguing this point but not very strongly.

So how about a nice long Indian Summer huh? Like until about the middle of May of next year? That sounds just fine to me. What’s wrong with a 75 degree Christmas, I ask you? Nothing that I can see. I’ll go out into the woods decorate a pine tree wearing a T-shirt in place of walking through a lot of frozen, sawed off trees at 20 below any day. I’m just sooo looking forward to yanking on the snow-blower’s pull rope this winter and having the stuff blown back in my face by a 30 MPH wind that’s trying to scrap the skin off my cheeks. And those wonderful trips down to the VA when I’m absolutely sure that the appointments are purposely scheduled so I have to do the 120 miles back to Newport in a raging blizzard.

Grump, grump, grump, grump….etc

Will I get over this? Will I get that warm fuzzy holiday feeling this year? Well, I won’t make any promises tonight but I’d better. The period from the last stroke of midnight on the very first second of the 26th of December to about the beginning of April is hard enough to deal with let alone adding October, November and most of December along with it.

I’ll get over this, I’ll get over this. I swear I’ll get over this…

  1. Morning Janet,

Welcome indeed! Why oh why is it that the older I get, the more I detest the cold and the farther north I move. There’s something wrooonnngg with that.

Okay, okay…I moved up here for love and that has made it definitely worth it. I’m still in denial of course. :)

  2. Oh, I love that, seasonal denial. I have to start using that. I have that, too. It’s freezing in Boston at night right now and I refuse to close the windows.
