The JT Evening News 3rd Edition

JT EN

(Just a logo I whipped up for this session-horrible ain’t it?)

Welcome to the 3rd edition of the JT Evening news (published whenever I feel like it–even if it’s early afternoon). All the the news fit for myself.

***************

The first item concerns my rather reluctance awareness of the obvious fact that I have neglected to keep up with the general house cleaning of my poor PC meaning that I have too many files that I no longer need, others that badly need organizing and I should have cleaned out my email ages ago. That will be remedied this weekend. I wonder how many other blogging type folks have the same problem?

***************

My theme, , has been updated and is now compatible with which of course means that I have to load it into my local sandbox and hack the theme templates with my few customizations and then replace the current version. This will be my first task of the day. Just thought you’d want to know. :)

***************

is asking everyone who stops by to themselves. is and picking out . is exploring the and wants to peek in at (via ). Just a random pick of folks I like to visit. :D

***************

Alrighty then. It’s time to get to work doing all those things I mentioned and thank you all for tuning in on another edition of the JT Evening News

Wasn’t it nice of Sadish to update his themes? I was grateful.

We are looking at properties in Southern Vermont from New York City. We’ll actually be up there again in two weeks. Focusing currently on the Windsor/Windham areas.

I’ve added many Vermont blogs to my RSS reader in the last few days trying to learn more about the Green Mountain State and it residents.

Ah, good deal, Mike! Of course you have to experience the place first hand (ie: live here) before you can get a good idea of the area and it’s people.

    Here’s a couple secrets:

If you survive the first 5 years, you’ll never leave.

Don’t try to “prove” yourself to anyone. They’ll make up there own minds about ya’ so just be yourselves. This also takes about 5 years so be patient. Maybe in 15 years you might even be called by your first name. :D

Don’t tell anyone I told you.

    Hi Kirk,

Thank you for pointing people in the Freedom Atlas direction. I’m still exploring it. It’s pretty cool.

Would would have thought computers would give us yet more housework?

Thanks Kirk, I understand exactly what you mean. From what I’ve read it’s likely that we will be welcomed with open arms, but we are also not your average New Yorkers. We have no reason to “prove” ourselves. Both of us have lived in varied locations, from Indiana to Northern CA, NY and many others.

What we know is that Vermont has everything we need, want, and maybe a little more.

I have read several articles (some displaying raw hatred) against NYers moving to Vermont. On the other-hand I’ve seen many blogs written be ex-NYers who claim they’ll never go back. We are sure we’ll be members of the later group.

Thanks again for the welcome. I won’t rat you out on the advice.

    Hi Rick,

No end to housework is there? ;)

The Freedom Atlas really caught my eye being an old Cold War submarine vet. I’ll have to take another look to see if it goes back far enough in years to cover the last couple years of the Soviet Union. Even the few years after it’s dissolution would be interesting as compared to the years leading up to the present.

Let me know how you make out in looking for a place/land and I’ll hold the snow for ya’. And thanks for keeping mum about the advice. ;)

    Kirk,

The data in the Freedom Atlas covers 1990 - 2006, so it’s only post-Cold War.

I like the idea of this a lot. I might have to consider something like that for my blog.

Hope you are doing well. I’ve been busy again this week, so blogging wasn’t my highest priority. :)

    Hey Rick,

That’s good enough then. I really didn’t figure it would have anything before 1990. Would have been interesting to compare the last decade of the Cold War to the decade after though. I’ll definitely make use of this data being the curious sort that I am and considering my background. By the way, to the left of the chart on the map there’s # of OB’s or something to that effect. I may have missed it but does OB stand for?

    Hi Cat,

It surprises me that I’m comfortable with this since I despised any other sort of ads or affiliate links. Guess I finally found something that fits my personality. Now what does that say about me I wonder? :)

I haven’t the faintest idea what the # of OBs means, Kirk. It appears to be related to the numerical scale somehow since it changes for different measures, but you would have to contact the author to find out the meaning.
