An Endoscopy for Lunch

Ah, tis a lovely day, lots of sunshine and highs in the 70’s (ya’ gotta love that global warming). And what a better day could one ask for to take a ride amongst the sculptured splendor of the green mountains and down into the graceful beauty that is the CT River Valley. Through the wondrous scenery abounding with fall colors to White River Jct, VT and the VA where we’ll stop and have an endoscope for lunch. Covered with a medium strength anesthetic au jous, it is truly a dish to make one faint and woozy. Which is most likely a good thing because this is one dish guaranteed to come back on you.

Yes, it’s that time again folks. Time for my wonderful lady to haul my carcass down to get Roto Rooter’d in an effort to ascertain the current status of my lower esophagus. I had a massive flare up Wednesday morning of last week and I’ve been out of work since so after being squeezed in for an appointment to see the GI specialist on Tuesday, I now have the honor of having a long, flexible probe slithered down my throat. This is no matter to me since I’ve had this procedure done so many times before I’m actually looking forward to it for a couple-three reasons:

  1. Hoping that this is the first step in finally repairing some of the damage done in the service.
  2. A possible dilation during this procedure which has brought me at least a few months of relief anyway.
  3. A 3 hour nap where it’s guaranteed that I will not be woken up by cramping nausea, back pains or a cat pawing at my face.

So it’s off we go into greens golds and reds (and the occasional browns) of Autumn in Vermont, where the eagles are packing to leave for the winter, the deer prance in the road at the most inconvenient times and wild turkeys dive bomb your windshield as you travel the highways. I should be wobbling back into our home around 7:00 PM this evening.

See you then.
