The Four O’Clock Shower

I discovered something yesterday afternoon that I should have discovered when I first had to leave the workforce for good: The four o’clock shower.

Why didn’t I think of this before? It’s bad enough that I have to put up with a lot of forced idleness due to being very limited on what I can perform physically (and the fact that if I try to do too much my body reminds me about this in all sorts of very uncomfortable ways…and Laurie yells at me) so finding ways to alleviate the frustration thereof is most important.

Yesterday was a cold one for November with temps staying down into the low 20’s with the majority of the day being in the teens and since my computer desk is in the corner of two adjoining outside walls, things can get a bit chilly down under. That plus the fact that I’m rather thin, it doesn’t take long for the ol’ bones to reach a temperature significantly below the temperature considered normal for humans. This finally drove me to the showers. A nice, looong, hot, wonderful shower. It was great! I nearly passed out at the end of it but it was really great nonetheless.

Yessirree! While most everyone else was at work, I was luxuriating in the shower. No kids upstairs taking baths, no adults taking showers and using up all the hot water. No one cranking open a cold water tap and simultaneously scalding the skin off my back or throwing open a hot water tap thereby causing things unmentionable to contract so far into my body that it takes two weeks for them to drop again. Shower till you faint, that’s going to be my motto from now on. Can’t beat it with a stick. :D
