What the Heck Have I Been Doing?

Well…I’ll tell you.
I’ve been spending the last few days wrestling a new WordPress install into something that resembles a shopping cart. This shopping cart will eventually be attached to my lady’s business website (Long Meadow Farms Quilts) so folks can buy directly from her as well as going through one of the craft malls that she currently has her products on.
Sounds like a deal huh? They even have a plugin called WP eCommerce that will help you do this and I guess that there are a lot of folks out there using this little gem to power their own small miniature type, online business effort. I wonder how long it took these people to get their WordPress powered shopping cart up and running?
Took me long enough I can tell you that!
After a half a dozen corrupted installs and screwed up databases, after a half a dozen wipe outs and reinstalls of WordPress, the theme, plugins, more tests than I care to remember, a heck of a lot of constructive cursing……I actually think it’s setup. Nothing’s loaded on it yet, no products at all except for one poor lone quilt that’s been transported through so many tests and email notifications and purchasing reports that it’s getting threadbare and fraying at the edges. It’s been whimpering lately also so I think I’ll take pity on the poor thing and let it go.
So that’s where I’ve been hiding of late; learning how to completely corrupt an entire WordPress install in several rather easy ways. Just goes to prove once again that the more powerful and complicated something is, the easier it is to break it. Hopefully this will be the last time and I can spend the afternoons slowly loading up all items and patting them gently into place.
I hope.
No link just yet since it’s currently off-line but as soon as we think it’s ready I’ll let you all know. Just don’t try to break it please. :0
