AdBlock Plus Updated to Work in Firefox 3 Beta 2

Just a short note here to let anyone whose been searching for a way to make that favorite Firefox extension, Adblock Plus work in Firefox 3 beta 2 need look no further than Mozilla’s Firefox Add-Ons site. The plugin has been updated for compatibility with Firefox 3 beta 2 and also the trunk builds up to and including 3.0b3. The same goes for the Adblock Filterset.G Updater add-on for Adblock Plus that updates the ad blocking extension with new filters every 4-7 days. I assume that the above extensions have been updated for awhile now but after seeing 3 searches for this in my stats over the past few days I thought it might be a good idea to let folks know about it. Nice of me isn’t it?

Adblock plus was working fine for me when I tried FF a few weeks back. Infact it was the only extension that was working which is why FF3 is sadly quite useless to me at this time.

Hey Cat,
You’re right, it did the same for me but the author just added a higher version number to the “install.rdf” file which is the one Firefox checks for compatibility. All the “.rdf” file really is, is a text file which lists the various Mozilla flavored browsers it will work in and the min and max version numbers the extension is compatible with. This file is located in the “name of extension.xpi” extension file which is nothing more than a .zip file with a different extension name slapped on it.
Get all that?
If you want (and only because you’re special), shoot me an email with a list of the “must have” extensions you would like to have work in Firefox 3 and I’ll see if I can sweet talk them into cooperating.
