The upgrade for K2 was almost too easy (knock on head wood) and all tabs in the admin have stayed in place so far (knock on head wood again). This still being a release candidate there’s a couple minor glitches here and there in the rendering part of the K2 options and such as the Backup and Restore bauble that sits above the Side Bar Modules page is now partially floating over the page title but that could be due to my display resolution or the fact I’m using Firefox 3 nightly builds as my browser of choice now (RC 3 rendered correctly though). Of course it could just be screwed up.
The Secret of course is to back up all your vitals for K2. I used the backup feature in the Sidebar Modules page (I happen to like K2’s built-in SBM) to backup my sidebar settings. I also backed up the "headers" folder (where all my header images reside) that lives in wp-content/themes/k2/images directory and my style.css file as well which I had made minor changes to.
Once that was done I hit the Reset and Uninstall link on the bottom of the K2 Options page, deleted K2 RC3 from my themes directory and uploaded the new version. All I had to do then is select it from the Presentation page and reload my back ups, use the Restore feature for my Sidebar Module setup and I was off and running or perhaps I was just off. Most people think of me that way.
I had one incident of the blog switching back to the Default theme when I attempted to switch from "Sample/sample.css" to "Off" via the K2 Options page and ended up with a "Cannot load K2 Options" starring me in the face but re-selecting K2 from the Themes page brought everything back and I can’t seem to duplicate the error. Go figure.
Well, that’s the beauty of trying out new stuff. Can’t wait until the folks at WordPress.org run out the first beta of 2.5 so I can play with that as well. I don’t recommend trying this yourself if your not used to doing stuff like this but if you’re tech head like me, irregardless of the age factor, go for it.
If you happen to see that my site has gone haywire, please let me know…thanks!

The info under the post title is a little out of place on FF 2.0.0.11:

I don’t notice any difference other than the very small text at the top that says skip to content. Was that always there and I missed it? Or is it new?
Posted 14 Jan 2008 at 5:16 pm ¶Hi Cat,
Yup, I noticed that too. I assume one of two things here:
1. They did it on purpose.
2. They did not do it on purpose and it’s screwed up.
I’ll bring it up on the K2 forums and see what they say.

Yup, I’ll go down in WordPress history as the fool that would try anything.
That “Skip to content” thing-a-ma-jig is something new as well. I’m not sure why that’s there so it’s another item to bring up at the K2 forums. It does work in the fact that it skips down to the top of my first post–not that it’s really needed. After all it’s not a very long journey to the bottom of my header.
Now that I think about it it could be for those that run ads above their posts or something like that. That way the reader who didn’t have some sort of ad blocker (like us Firefox users) wouldn’t have to bother with them.
Well…it’s a thought anyway.

You, and who else???
Posted 14 Jan 2008 at 7:30 pm ¶Ah yes, my mistake. All apologizes for not including you. I shall correct forthwith…
Yup, we’ll go down in WordPress history as the fools who would try anything.
Now that ’s much better, yes?
