The Vernal Egginox 2008

I know it’s a bit late but we did our annual egg standing bit or should I say that my honey did actually since I was headed down to the VA at the time. So for those that still don’t know about this, the Vernal Equinox is the only time during the year where you can easily stand a raw egg on it’s end. If you’re really good you can stand it on it’s narrow end.

So without further ado, here’s a pic of this year’s vernal egginox.

And have a Happy Easter as well everyone.

  1. Hi K8,

It’s true enough. We stand them (yes, raw eggs) during every vernal equinox. It has to do with the sun being situated directly across the equator vs this, that and the that other thing I don’t know about. All I know is when my lady told me about it for the first time, my response was very much like yours. Either way, it works. I’ve done plenty myself over the past 4 years. Laurie can stand a whole dozen if there’s time.

Try it next time. Proof is and all that.

  2. 1 year later…

*tsk* it didn’t work! I mucked about on Googlearth for a bit and worked out that I probably should’ve tried at at 6.10pm, but I’m not sure.

True to my word, the hired goons are on their way, been nice knowin’ ya.

    • Must be something about Irish eggs? You’re timing was off a bit since 6:30 PM my time was about the ideal time and that would make it around 11:30 PM your time I think so it may have been a bit past the point.

Anyway, Laurie stood 6 eggs on their pointy little bottoms yesterday evening and we have the pictures (not retouched) to prove it (can’t take the chance your goons can read). I’ll work up a post tomorrow about it.

    • Grandad – I had a feeling some folks might think that so this year Laurie changed the location to her computer desk. Of course 2006′s Vernal Egginox ceremony was held on the kitchen counter.

Guess we’ll just have to stop by your place ourselves next year and do it for you?
