Our Short Walks
Posted by Kirk M on 28 Jul 2008 | Tagged as: Life at home
After Dinner:
Me: “Would you like to attempt a walk?”
Her: “Okay, but it will have to be a short one, my legs hurt some.”
Me: “S’alright with me. The way my back is I’m not looking to make a couple miles here.”
(Outside and onward to the corner, hand in hand…)
Me: “Where to, Love?”
Her: “Up.” (She points up the hill.)
Me: “Ya’ sure?”
Her: “Yup”.
(up the hill, around the curve and down the other side…)
Me: “How far you want to go, the glue tanks?”
Her: “We can go a bit farther. You doing okay?”
Me: “I’m game if you are.”
(Past the glue tanks and down the road…half a mile from house by now…)
Me: “We going to pay the dead folks a visit?”
Her: “Yup.”
Me: “Quiet neighborhood. We’ll hear the birds that way.”
Her: “Caw…caw.” (The 3 ravens that hang out in the tree in our backyard are following us as usual, she talks to them.)
(We turn down Cemetery road, 3/4’s of a mile from the house when we reach the cemetery…)
Her: “Left turn, Clyde.”
Me: “Ooookay.”
Her: “Doing okay?”
Me: “I can make it if you can.”
(Down around to the left side of the cemetery we go, up the side [it's a rather long grave yard], then down around to the center road that heads back toward Cemetery road. We visit along the way.)
Her: “Look at all the new pine cones way up near the top there.”
Me: “If I do I’m gonna fall backward.”
Her: “Whoa, I see what you mean.”
Me: “Let’s leave that to the ravens shall we? They can tell us about them later.”
(End of cemetery road, turn right, past the glue tanks…)
Her: “My legs are killing me.”
Me: “Did it again didn’t we?”
Her: “Yah.”
Me: “Let’s cross the tracks then, forget the hill.”
(Across the tracks and back to our street, 1/4 mile to go…)
Her: “Groooaan.”
Me: pain, hurt, ow, stab, etc…
(…and the house…)
Her: “Thank God, we’re home!”
Me: pain, hurt, ow, stab, etc…
(We collapse into chairs, grimaces of pain plastered across our faces…)
Me: “That was a real nice walk, Love. Do it again tomorrow?”
Her: “You bet.”
