Grandad left us a few weeks ago to go on holiday. He went to France for 3 weeks. According to the news reports, France survived with minimal damage.
Also apparently, he took the fine weather Ireland was having with him when he left (selfish ain’t he?) and all his friends had to tell him while he was gone was complaints about the lousy weather or so he says. Of course, when he arrives back from holiday a few days ago, he brought all the fine weather back with him. Now he thinks all his friends are a bunch of liars, malcontents and whiners.
And unfortunately, he seems to be having trouble shifting his mind back into gear. Maybe you all should go help him with it.
You know…I actually missed the old duffer.

Hey Kirk. Similarities abound. My old man went to Italy for a week and just got back. The kids kept me super busy but everyone missed him too as he watches the kids a couple afternoons a week.
I had the greatest time in Maine. Stumbled on one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen actually – a soastal town called Camden. I am going to ask around and see if we could park the sail from the USS Augusta there. On the day I showed up there the Friday on Labor Day weekend they just began their Tall Ships festival. There was a USN Surface ship there giving tours called the USS Whidbey Island (LSD-41)… Just love that name dude. Not Whidbey Island from Puget Sound, the LSD part. Must be “Naval Intelligence” to keep naming ships LSD.
Anyway I’ll hook you up on my blogroll – cheers…
Hello Mal,
Heh, Grandad isn’t actually one of the family but rather an ornery Irish blogger who uses the moniker of Grandad on his blog He’s actually reported to be rather quiet, kind and generous in person but for heavens sake don’t tell him I said that.
Sounds like you hit southern Maine just at the right time, and tall ships? Wish I had been there. And let’s hope they don’t come up with a new ship that requires the classification acronym of DOH.
