  1. The Granny believed that inside toilets were unhygienic. And the house did not get one until she died in the late sixties. Possibly this came by not being from your part of the world.

    Mind you I do not remember this problem of five foot of snow being raised in the that wonderful book that Dad gave me as a kid called The Specialist about the exploits of a outhouse builder.

    • KevanB – I heard tales that my grandmother, who lived at the old family place on central Vermont, felt the same way. Of course, she had a habit of going down to the river in the middle of February (30 degrees below zero) and chopping a hole in the ice so she could bathe. A cold woman she was.
