The powers that be at Facebook have once again taken a very easy procedure that was very fairly easy to find and turned it into a very easy procedure that can now only found by accident. Facebook, with all due respect to those involved with the unenviable task of babysitting this horrendously complicated piece of online software, does have an irritating habit of making things more difficult from time to time.
To get to the point, Facebook offers a way to import your blog into Facebook Notes. And anyone who has had a Facebook account more than a day probably knows what Notes are. In short, to accomplish this task involved clicking on the Notes tab and then in the top of the right hand sidebar on the Notes page you would find a section called Notes Settings. In this section was a link that would take you to another page where you could perform the absurdly easy task of importing your most recent blog posts into your notes. Easy, huh?
Well, not anymore.
Sure, it’s still an absurdly easy task to perform but just you try to find it now. And this is what this post is all about thanks to some urging from a dear friend of mine to whom I initially passed on this grand new adventure in Facebook navigation in a recent email.
To wit:
From your Facebook “Profile” page click on the Notes tab near the top of the page. Once your "Notes page loads up, click on the title of one of your notes in the top section of the sidebar: (Click images to embiggen)
This will take you to your “single post page (or note in this case). Now, look up above the title of your note and next to your Avatar you should see 3 links. Click on “My Notes”.
You’re almost there. When the next page loads up you’ll see that you’ve finally found that elusive “Notes Settings” section at the top of the the right hand sidebar. Click on the appropriate link in that section (“Import a blog” I believe) and I’m sure you’ll know what to do after that (the image below shows what the link looks like after you’ve imported your blog).
Now, importing your blog into Facebook, which is basically importing your feed plus a few fancy touches, is obviously not for everyone as it offers a chance for Facebook users not to go to your site in order to read and comment on your posts. Then again, not all your readers have Facebook accounts now do they? So it’s up to you to decide whether or not to take advantage of this feature. There’s no risk involved if you do import and decide later that it’s not for you. Just click on the “Edit import settings” as seen in the above image and it will take you to a very simple page that has but one option—“Stop importing”.
Of course you have to find it first.
Hey thanks for the shout-out! I already forwarded this blog post read in google reader to a few people who may be interested. Good point about the readers may comment at facebook and not at blog site. Like you said though not all are at FB, that is true for me anyway. Have a great weekend!

Hi Elaine – Now how did I miss this one? I think I need a mental tune up.
You’re more than welcome for the shout-out (anytime).
I had my Facebook import my blog… NOT what I thought it was going to be. It imported the entire thing… over two years’ worth of posts! THEN when I finally figured out how to access the editing, it gave me only the option to “stop importing” (yet leaves what was already imported) or to delete the posts, one at at time. I did eventually get them all deleted. Talk about making things more difficult than they need to be. ARG! I won’t make THAT mistake again.

Hi Momma – Sorry I missed welcoming you in the comments, must be getting old[er]. Importing your blog in Facebook is an iffy thing at best. For some bloggers it’s okay and for some others it’s not. Unfortunately, the only way to find out is to import and find out. And I agree, FB (as usual) makes deleting your imported blog a lot harder than it should be.
Oh yeah, welcome to Just Thinkin’!
Thanks Kirk, this was really helpful. You’re right, it is absurdly easy, it just needs figuring out that’s all. Of course I wasn’t helped by the fact that I was working on my fan page and that Facebook constantly defaults you back to the profile page. You really need to be on your toes. Way too easy to mess up!
Denise
THANK YOU! I was trying to STOP importing my blog into facebook and could not, for the life of me, find the notes settings.

Welcome, David – I was asked by a blogging friend of mine to see if I could ferret out where the “Add blog to Facebook” feature went to (it had disappeared in one of FB’s infamous updates). It wasn’t easy, believe me as I got lost several times. Good thing I brought a snack. Once I emailed her the procedure (with pictures, arrows and all) she suggested I post the thing. Since I didn’t have any idea what to write about at the time I wrote about that instead.
Glad you found it handy.

Thanks, that was driving me bananas – and there are so many old instructions on the web, hard to find the new ones… Facebook’s own help is as usual wrong.
Any instructions with the new profile page? I’m trying to stop the importing. It says I’m not importing any but I still am . . . ugh.
Dana – I took a look at the new “Import” page on my profile and if it’s still importing your blog into Notes but states it’s not importing anything then I would probably set up the same blog into the new Import page again and once complete, publish a short test post on your blog just to make sure it still imports properly. Then go back into your Profile’s “Import” page and remove that blog. In other words, your reminding it that’s it’s actually importing something in order to tell it to stop doing it–stupid computer tricks. Make sense?
quick question – last night i imported my blog into facebook and then decided that i didnt like the way it was displayed and would like to stop importing. i looked online and found the same directions you stated….click the stop importing button. but i don’t see a stop importing option? does this have to do with the new profile that facebook has now? do you have any advise for me? i’ve tried everything. thank you.
Becky – I attempted to import a test blog of mine into Facebook “Notes” in an effort to then find out how to stop importing. Ironically enough the Facebook blog importer told me it was broken while it was importing so I got nowhere. I’ll try again in a few days and see if it works then.
