The bad thing about blogging is that once in awhile ‘life in general’ demands attention and this time around it’s been very demanding indeed. Ergo, writing takes a back seat.
I’m not able to get into all the details right now as I need to be headed to the VA (again) for an audio exam in less than an hour but suffice it to say things have been rather busy.
Between a previous trip to the VA and this one, a rather large piece fell off my lady’s old Mercury Sable station wagon. Because of this and the mind boggling amount of mileage on her rig it’s finally (past) time to replace it before something more vital decides to drop off—like the driver’s seat just when my wife happens to be occupying it.
The trouble is that she needs another station wagon just like it (has to do with her business) and they’re not easy to find these days and when you do find one it usually has a bad case of rot.
Anyway, the search for a replacement, dealing with used car salesmen and all the rest has kept me quite quite busy over the last week or so and as I said previously, I still need to head to the VA shortly which takes up the rest of my day.
I just happened to notice that I hadn’t posted in awhile (fancy that) so I figured y’all might appreciate a note.
Have a wonderful day.
Good luck with car searching! You’d think in this day and age that there’d be an abundance of cheap motors… I’ve had four friends BEGGING me to buy their car in the last month. For next to nothing, too. It’s a massacre.
I’m thankful that it’s large parts falling off the car though, and not off you or your lov’ly lady. You two would be a lot harder to replace.

Good luck with the car hunting! Too bad you weren’t able to take advantage of the cash for clunkers program. The Ford Flex is a nice looking vehicle (station wagon type). Hope you find something soon or at least before the snow starts flying again.
Hope appt., at VA went well today.

Elaine and K8 – Looks like I might have found a replacement. An old wagon and some $$$ for a not-quite-as-old wagon. All that’s left is dickering with the dealer and making sure certain things are fixed before I accept delivery.
I shall keep you apprised. (Interesting post title BTW, K8)
Kirk,
For whatever it’s worth, my Honda Element is a darned good cargo hauler. The rear seats can be folded up into the side walls or easily removed altogether and it becomes downright freakishly cavernous. The size of this vehicle when viewed from the exterior versus he amount of space inside is just bizarre!
I’ve transported an Ikea dining table & 8 chairs, a massive leather chair & ottoman, enough lumber for a buddy’s 25′ fence, fixtures & tile for a small master bathroom remodel project , and so much more! And it’s our daily driver, moving 2 adults & a toddler to/from work & daycare reliably. I call it my “toaster on wheels,” but it’s like a Swiss Army knife of vehicles!
Anyway, the Element has been around for several years, and I;ve seen quite a few low-mileage used models floating around…

Rob O – I’ve looked at the Honda Element myself during the car hunt although it’s rather outside my price range (we ended up getting a 2001 Sable wagon to replace her ’97 Sable wagon). Our hauling requirements are rather unique in that her folding display panels and hanger pipes that she uses for the occasional quilt show are over 6 feet long and, surprisingly enough, there’s nothing short of a Chevy Tahoe or full size van that has that type of length in it’s “cargo hold” so to speak. The old Sable and Taurus station wagons actually have that length once you fold down the back seats. Vehicles like the Tahoe (gas hogging behemoth) or a full size van (more or less a single use vehicle) are not an option so we had to stick with the wagon.
Someday however, when then need for such length is no longer required, we’ll be the first folks on the lot looking for a smaller vehicle that still provides a comfortable ride for “old bones”.
