I may not be the world’s biggest Obama fan but the latest news stories about him getting a “discount” on a new home is absolutely ridiculous. Can’t they do any better than this?

Obama Got Discount on Home Loan - washingtonpost.com

The freshman Democratic senator received a discount. He locked in an interest rate of 5.625 percent on the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage, below the average for such loans at the time in Chicago. The loan was unusually large, known in banker lingo as a “super super jumbo.” Obama paid no origination fee or discount points, as some consumers do to reduce their interest rates.

Two pages of this tripe in the article no less with all sorts of “OMG” type statements that mean absolutely nothing at all except this; the guy got a fair deal, that’s all.

The going rate at the time was around 5.94 percent which means his so called “discount” was a mind boggling .315 percent which saved him about $300,000 on a 1.65 million dollar house. They even managed to drag Tony Rezko back into the picture by bringing up the point that his wife had bought the adjacent property for $625,000 then sold a portion of the the underdeveloped property to the Obama’s to increase their yard space–oh, heavens to Betsy, the guy’s obviously on the make.

This is not news.

Hell, I did better than that when I bought my house down on the south shore of CT years ago. I locked in a fixed interest rate better than 2 percent lower than the going rate and a paid significantly less than the asking price along with absolutely no closing costs while I was at it. Sure, my place wasn’t a 1.65 million dollar restored Georgian mansion but then again I didn’t have a 2 million dollar book deal going either. No one actually offered to increase my yard space by selling part of theirs but I already had a good size yard anyway so who needed it? Just more to mow is the way I look at it.

If this is the best the media can do to dig up dirt on Obama then someone’s slacking, he hides it better than any politician in history or maybe there’s just not that much to dig up after all. Either way, this is about as newsworthy as me buying my house in CT was.

Of course it did make me write up a post about it didn’t it?

Yeah right. This is the same Administration that’s pushing domestic oil drilling in some of the last true wilderness areas left in this country regardless of the environmental impact but their worried about the impact of these solar energy projects?

If this isn’t a ploy to obtain more time for pushing domestic oil drilling then we’re all living in the Matrix and I’m Morpheus. At this point I wouldn’t doubt in the least that this current “oil crisis” was purposely manufactured by our own government in order to further convince Congress and the American people that domestic oil drilling is the only solution.

I must be in a bad mood or something but this sounds like a whole lot of BS to me.

And to think I used to live there. Oh wait…that’s typical of that area—I forgot.

NEW BEDFORD - A firearms instructor for the Bristol County Sheriff’s department has been given other duties after his gun accidentally discharged while he was teaching a class on weapons safety.

Officials say the Glock handgun went off while Maj. Donald Lamar was demonstrating to deputy sheriffs how to safely holster the weapon. The bullet ripped a hole in Lamar’s pants but missed his leg and foot.

Source: Boston Herald

Guess they should have stuck with the old .38 police special, huh? Or maybe the instructor should have remembered to unload his frickin’ weapon before the class began, you think?

That is absolutely inexcusable. It’s just sheer blind luck that someone didn’t get seriously injured or killed. I’ve been trained and certified on several different types of fire arms over my lifetime so I know what I’m talking about when I say the man should be relieved from duty on a permanent basis. Does that sound cold and heartless? Just ask his pants what they think.

I’m sure that training session was a particularly effective one though.

If you suffer from depression in anyway my advice to you is to not read the latest news unless it’s from the Good News Network or some other site like that. It won’t help your outlook that’s for sure. Even I’m starting to feel down in the dumps.

China is being it’s usual communist “squash the ugly head of freedom” idiotic twisted self and beating on and/or killing/will be killing a rather large amount of peaceful, unarmed Tibetan monks (unless you want to count the firecrackers they’ve been throwing at Chinese troops as being “armed”) and now threatening to take off the “kid gloves” they’ve been using so far to beat on them with and really get nasty. Never knew that marching peacefully towards a destination was akin to “rioting”.

I noticed that the Dow just fell below 12,000 within the last few minutes or so along with significant drops for Nasdaq and S&P 500 as well. Makes me so happy I could just throw up. The saving grace is I’m not one of those who made lots of investments back in the late 90’s in all the heavy hitters that are now traveling down some Wall Street sewer line right about now. Hell, I remember when the “Dow” closed down the day above 10,000 for the very first time back in the late 90’s and now I wouldn’t be surprised if it falls straight through 10,000 and keeps right on going. Just lovely.

The dollar ain’t worth a shovel of dry manure while oil hits the roof and smashes right through it (read all about it).

Okay, I can’t take anymore.

In the meantime, It’s a beautiful day out in the Northeast Kingdom, Spring looks like she’s well on her way (meaning I can actually see large areas of driveway) and except for the high prices at the pump, life is pretty much the same as it always has been (Vermont is always about 10 years behind the times anyway). So my advice to you is have yourself another cup of coffee or whatever you prefer, relax and just let things fall apart everywhere else if it wants to. As long as it doesn’t include your dooryard, house, family and fairly immediate surroundings the simple fact is it will fall apart whether you worry about it or not.

Why worry?

PS: I added all those “Google News” links in hopes that this post, sometime in the future, will contradict the hell out of itself.
