As most of my regular readers already know (all 3 or 4 of them), I’m not exactly what you might call a big guy. I’m more like that guy that has to run around in the shower to get wet. I’m actually more like the guy who has to run around outside in the sun in order to get a tan but you get the idea. So when I was diagnosed with diabetes 2-1/2 years ago it came as a bit of a surprise. As time went on this diagnosis became outright irritating as my blood sugar levels absolutely refused to stay put and were constantly on the increase.

To make a long story very short, both my wife and I eventually figured out what was wrong. And what was wrong was chronic pain.

During my “diabetes training” one of the things they had mentioned was that chronic pain was a factor in raising one’s blood sugar levels and since I was in quite a lot of pain at the time it made a lot of sense that this might be causing the problem. This theory of ours proved itself out since as this chronic pain became exponentially worse as the months rolled by, my diabetes went right along for the ride.

Oh yeah…I was keeping this short wasn’t I?

Fast forward to today and I’m two months past having surgery that decreased this chronic pain down to a much more manageable level. So much so that I’ve been experiencing low blood sugar attacks sometimes twice daily depending on how much physical activity I’ve managed to put myself through (family trait there). I’m not quite at the point where I can stop taking my diabetes medication altogether but that time is getting close.

But I still have to combat these low blood sugar attacks when I feel one coming on and you know what that means don’t you?

Follow up CT scan shows my lungs clear of the dark area that was seen during post-op. Bit releived about that.

I got the results from the follow up CT scan of my lungs that I underwent a few days ago at the VA and the results show my lungs clear of any dark areas which the doctors saw in the initial CT scan after my surgery in early June.

After opening the envelope that arrived in the mail this morning and reading the contents I was rather surprised to find myself breathing a small sigh a relief at the results. I had known about the dark area they spotted in the bottom of my left lung during first CT scan I underwent 3 days after surgery and was assured by my surgeon that it was probably just a bit of pneumonia, not exactly an uncommon occurrence when one has the type of operation that I had.

No problem, I thought. Perfectly understandable. Heard about that sort of thing myself more than once over my lifetime so I put it right out of my head that there was a possibility, however slight, that it might be something else.

Still, there must have been small part of my wee brain sitting in a dark room worrying it’s little head off about this so I figure it must have been this same little guy that heaved that sigh when the results of the CT scan filtered down to it’s small room, knocked on the door and asked to be let in.

Now I suppose I could end this post with a smartass line such as; “Now where did I put that pack of smokes?” but since I gave up that nasty habit well over 3 years ago I’m afraid it wouldn’t be appropriate or reflect on the true nature of the situation.

So I guess I’ll have to leave up the last line to the imagination of (all 5 of) my readers?

I haven’t been posting much of late (as if that’s a surprise) and for the usual reason—not feeling well. But now there’s an extra reason you see. I’m starting to do (more difficult) chores per day and (finally) running errands to more places than just the local grocer’s for milk which I wasn’t managing to accomplish before. So instead of spending the 3 to 4 days between actual posts feeling too lousy to post I’m now spending the 3 or 4 days between posts doing those (more difficult) chores and running more errands and then feeling to lousy to post.

Everyone see how that works?

No?

Okay, I don’t blame you.

It goes like this. Although I’m still going 3 to 4 days without posting I’m actually accomplishing more on those days then I was accomplishing previously. In other words, I’m being more productive when I’m not posting instead of just being (understandably) a layabout.

The problem now is that doing a bit more chores than I have been and running a few more errands than I have been is taking a great deal longer than than it used to thus taking up more of a given day than it used to. And, of course, at the end of the day with all these extra chores and errands that I’m now managing to accomplish I’m completely wiped out. And this means I’m not up to posting. At the least writing up posts for this little site of mine requires me to be in a position other than passed out on the floor/bed/couch/what-have-you.

This, however, does have it’s drawbacks in that I’m still managing to follow all these interesting news stories and blog posts that have me slavering to pound out posts with my opinions on these news stories and blog posts. Not that anyone really cares what my opinions might be but more along the lines of a personal release sort of thing. I mean, if you eat a smorgasbord of information every day it’s got to come out somewhere (I’ll refrain from the obvious analogy).

The whole point of this rather blithering post is that I’m getting better. But man, it’s taking it’s time about it. Realistically, and as much as it irritates me to admit it, I’m probably looking at the better part of a year before I’m 100% again. And, as My Lady keeps telling me, if I overdo it it’s just going to take that much longer.

Okay, so I’ll settle for 92% by early 2010?

(Disclaimer: Author is not to be held responsible for any meanderings, bad analogies, bad grammar, misspellings and/or any other weirdness in the above post due to the fact that he mowed the lawn, ran two different errands, wrote the above post and is now late for his medications. He should recover from all this within the next 3 or 4 days)

I went to down Boston way one week ago today for a follow up appointment with my surgeon. She wanted to see how me and her fine work were getting along and I, of course, had a few of my own questions to ask her. Like what did she mean when she said my body was “brittle” for example.

All in all the appointment itself went well enough and the explanation of “brittle” didn’t tell me me anything I didn’t already know. I have atypical reactions to standard procedures, medications and you never know what color my blood will be at any given moment—that kind of thing. Suffice to say that my recovery from surgery is going well albeit a bit slowly.

It was after this pronouncement that everything went wrong as if somewhere within my mind, body and/or spirit perked up and said “Oh yeah? Well watch this!”

I won’t get into the details of the last several days since my return home but Laurie had to hang a sign on her shop door once again and stay home with her invalid for 3 days this time until I was able to stand erect for more than 30 seconds without passing out or having a bad bathroom experience.

So once again I have been unable to post anything to my poor blog due to ill health. Will this ever end? I mean I’d prefer to start posting about different and varied subjects just like in the old days when I could make it to the computer without losing consciousness.

Oh well, at least the spammers have another excuse to leave me their heartfelt “get well” comments. They’re getting quite good at it lately.

Once upon a time there was the Internet. Then came the World Wide Web (WWW). And later there were blogs and with the blogs came the comment spam. And at first the comment spam was written by human spam generators usually writing in some sort of faked broken English that made you think the comment spam was actually written by someone named Abeen Mazoud Bizaar or some other such foreign type name. These human spam generators were paid plenty of <strike>Rubles</strike> dough to do this.

Then came the spambots. Little software type robots that wrote the same type of broken English comment spam only worse. It replaced the human spam generators that had been writing comment spam thus saving the owners of said spam operation lot’s of <strike>Rubles</strike> dough. This type of comment spam made you think that Abeen Mazoud Bizaar was living in a place called ‘Merry Meadows’.

Then came Aksimet and other such plugins that could be installed into blogs. These plugins went out and killed all the little spambots and things were quiet for awhile. But then came the human spam generators again only this was a whole new generation of them. They weren’t like the old models. And these new upgraded human spam generators have gone out of their way to welcome me home from the hospital.

All sorts of warm and wonderful comments have come my way from real estate agents in Ireland, time share folks in England, housing developers in Death Valley and someone selling vacation homes in India named Abeen Mazoud Bizaar.

Wonderful, nicely worded (time share) comments wishing me a fast and painless recovery, others from those kind (real estate) folks that are keeping me in their prayers, (products for dogs) people who tell me about having their own surgery and not to worry, things will mend—all sorts of delightful comments with caring and compassion just oozing out the sides of my comment boxes that just made me feel all warm inside.

I really hated to delete them.

So to all those real estate. time share, vacation homes and dog products type folks out there who took the time to actually read my “I’m back” post and write such kind and thoughtful words, I am truly sorry that I had to trash your comments. Spam is spam I’m afraid and no matter how nice it sounds or how relevant it may be…it’s ultimate destination is the cyber-toilet. Thank you for not writing more than a dozen of them.

Have a nice day though.
